Project Overview

The Civil Engineering and Development Department (CEDD) sought to transform its annual report into a modern, user-friendly digital experience. The existing format was outdated, difficult to navigate, and visually overwhelming. This project focused on redesigning the report as a website that improves readability, engagement, and information accessibility.

About CEDD

The Civil Engineering and Development Department (CEDD) plays a vital role in planning and executing civil engineering projects, covering infrastructure development and environmental management. Their annual report is a key communication tool, showcasing achievements, financial performance, and future goals to stakeholders and the public. An effective design was essential to ensure transparency and professionalism in their messaging.

Problem Statement

The current annual report format is outdated, with overly wide content pages that make reading difficult. Additionally, the prominent green color distracts stakeholders, hindering their ability to access and understand the information.

The challenge is to design a modern, user-friendly website that effectively presents the report while embodying the values of transparency and professionalism central to CEDD’s mission.

Apporach

After the analysation of competitor reports to identify best practices in presentation and layout:

  • I adopted a light blue color palette to evoke a sense of trust, clarity, and professionalism.

  • Key visual was add in the website as a theme graphic in order to create visual identity and uniqueness to audiences that aligned with CEDD style.

  • Incorporated visuals, infographics, and concise text to make complex information more digestible.

Takeaways

organizational and time management skills

Seeing the final result go live, and knowing my design helped CEDD communicate better was such a great feeling. It made all the hard work worth it. I realized how much good design can actually help people when it’s clear, thoughtful, and practical.

I also learned that real-world design is a team sport. It requires a lot of back-and-forth, open-mindedness, and flexibility. Working with different teams taught me the importance of staying aligned, iterating quickly, and not getting too attached to the first idea. Being able to share, tweak, and rebuild ideas together makes the final result stronger.

There were tight deadlines, of course, but I learned how to keep the quality high without slowing things down. That balance is tricky, but super satisfying when it clicks.

This project reminded me why I love digital design. I enjoy solving problems, making things better, and collaborating with people. I’m excited to carry everything I learned into my next challenge!
